The Indo-European root ar (to join) has given our language the words art and articulate. Painting in oil is my way of articulating my reaction to subjects, which move me. My hope is to engage the viewer in visual conversation and, in so doing, succeed in expressing myself. I am attracted by the vagaries of light and by its stark absence thereof - by the vibrancy of color, by the texture and balance of mass. My paintings, based on realism, are abstracted by my personal point of view. To convey that point of view, I employ the brush, pallet knife and, at times, the tip of my little finger. These comprise the language of my articulation.
