Bruce Price:  “I AM A CLOUD”

Denver painter Bruce Price returns to Plus Gallery for the fourth time in a solo exhibition with “I am a cloud,” a new body of work culled from an intense exploration into abstract painting. Price is one of the most critically acclaimed artists in Colorado of the last ten years. In 2004 he was named the “Top Abstract Painter” by Mary Voelz Chandler in the Rocky Mountain News.  His 2005 exhibition “Full” was named the best solo exhibition of the year by Michael Paglia in Westword. In 2006 he was featured in the MCA Denver’s signature exhibitions “Decades of Influence” and “Extended Remix.”  Since becoming one of the first resident artists at Denver’s Redline in the RiNo district, Price has engaged with experimentation in his art in a prolific fashion.  Currently the Director of the “Institute for Experimental Studies” at Denver’s Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, he continues to be one of the region’s most relevant and fascinating artists.

“Dirt” tells the amazing and little known story of the relationship between humans and living dirt and features eco/food thinkers such as; Vandana Shiva, Wangari Maathai, Michael Pollen, Paul Stemets, and Majora Carter.

The Great Marsh in Massachusetts extends along the coast of New England from Cape Ann to the New Hampshire border. It is the largest salt marsh ecosystem north of Long Island. I had the opportunity to visit, walk, study and photograph this unique terrain. The Great Marsh exhibit at Ice Cube Gallery celebrates in my abstract translation the beauty of this netherland.

Plinth Gallery

On March 5th, Karen Swyler returns to Colorado for a solo exhibition of her fine ceramic work. Swyler, who received her MFA in Ceramics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, joins us for an artist reception and show opening during our March 5th "First Friday", 6-9pm. Swyler's work will be on display at Plinth Gallery through March 27, 2010. Karen Swyler's porcelain vessels begin as simple, unadorned forms which are skillfully deconstructed then reassembled into pairs or groups that convey a relationship to each other. Her surfaces are finished in a simple white glaze, at times incorporating a thin line of contrast to further unite the paired forms. Karen's ceramic work is refined, elegant and reflects her own interpretations of personal relationships, using this pairing of vessels as a metaphor.  We are delighted to show her exquisite work at Plinth Gallery.

In addition to the elegant pieces of Karen Swyler, our Gallery Collection has many new items including ceramic baskets from Jim Kraft, the intricately designed platters of Paul Barchilon, and the expressive pieces from Barbara Schwartz.

Additionally, Jonathan Kaplan is honored to be among thirteen ceramic artists selected for the “Colorado Clay” exhibition at the Foothills Art Center in Golden, March 13-May 2,  2010.

WHAT IT IS!

Oil paintings by John Todd Redding 

Native to Denver, and a favorite with kids everywhere, "Mr. Todd" is a dedicated Art Teacher with extensive formal training in a wide array of disciplines. He has worked in Acrylic, tempera, watercolor, sculpture, even fresco applications. He is currently Pursuing a Master's degree in K-12 technology.

Todd is often busy working on commissioned mural work, so We are excited to welcome him!

Lisa Kowalski Studio & Gallery

Ironton artist Andy Berg will be exhibiting in RiNo this March at Lisa Kowalski Gallery. An opening reception will be held for the artist Friday, March 5th, 2010.
