FIND THE RINOS: The RiNo Art District is approximately a one mile radius geographically and is fun to explore! As incentive for the tour, we’ll also be hosting another RiNo Scavenger Hunt. Ceramic Artist Jonathan Kaplan at Plinth Gallery in RiNo has created 100 custom ceramic medallions that will be hidden around the district near various locations. These collectors’ items are all numbered and prove to be a fun adventure for all. We encourage people to only take one per person if found so others can join in the adventure.

aBuzz Gallery is opening it's door on Thursday, May 2, 2013 with an opening reception from 6-9PM. Located in the Dry Ice Factory in the RiNo Art District of Denver, this new gallery will showcase emerging and established artists in all media.

aBuzz Gallery redefines how artists and galleries interact, with a new twist. At each solo show, exhibiting artists will be given a customized marketing plan and instructions on how to execute a business model developed by internationally known fiber artist and gallery owner, Carol Ann Waugh, who has an MBA degree, decades of experience in branding and marketing, is the author of several best-selling books and is one of Craftsy’s top instructors. OPENING RECEPTION is First Friday May 3rd, 6-9pm. The exhibition opens to the public on Monday April 15th and runs through Saturday May 18th.

The title 'Bemsha Swing' refers to a Thelonious Monk song. Yoshi likens the rhythms and displacement within the jazz standard to his own interpretation of art-making~

"First of all, you’ve got to know the Monk’s famous bear-dance to understand the true vibe, and like this jazzman, I want to create a kind of expressive conduit with earthy wit plus some slicing of unknowable gestures in my sculpture.

It is my bear-dance with melody and rhythm, on a subconscious level, that are blended into the work with recognizable textures of nature fragments and oddities. Those motifs from the multiple memories are metaphors for the array of clumsiness found in my own process of seeking the real."

Both a public market and art fair, this bazaar is focused solely on the work of independent local creatives and artists and will feature everything from costumes to cupcakes. Whatever unusual treasures you're after, be it art, hand-made zombie dolls or those feather earrings that everyone's wearing right now, you can rest assured you will find something to fascinate you at this event. Mingling with Fire - Meet the Burning Man Fire Art Experts

Burning Man is an annual gathering that draws the largest, fieriest art in the world. Fire is truly at the heart of the Burning Man event, and they encourage and support all types of safe fire art and pyrotechnic displays. Two members of Burning Man's Safety Team, DaveX and Eric Smith are in Denver teaching a "flame effects" workshop to promote the safe use of open fire, flame effects and pyrotechnics in artwork.

The Fusion Factory and Trace Gallery are joining together to bring you a night of mingling with these experts. This will be an informal garden party where you will have the opportunity to rub elbows with two of the worlds greatest experts in the field of fire art.

Kitty Mae Millinery, known for its eye-catching hats & bridal accessories all handmade by Susan Dillon, is moving shop! The millinery business is booming, and Susan is putting all of her efforts into expanding the hat & bridal lines. “As much as I love running the boutique,” says Susan,
“I am finding that more and more I am having to neglect it to make hats or visa versa. The decision needed to be made to run one or the other as well as possible, and hats are my real passion.” The retail boutique will be closing May 4 and Susan will be moving her workshop and showroom into Wazee Union at 3501 Wazee St. #80. You may remember that this is the artists’ community that gave Susan her “start”. “I am very excited to be back in such a creative community!” says Susan. The new workshop and showroom will be open in time for the RiNo Art Safari open studio tour on May 11, 2013.

The showroom will be open by appointment and on First Fridays (the RiNo Arts District’s monthly art walk). You can also find Susan’s handmade pieces on her Etsy shops (www.etsy.com/shop/kittymaebridal and www.etsy.com/shop/kittymaemillinery). Keep your eyes open for the Kitty Mae Millinery line in retail boutiques around Denver, as well. “I am so excited to be able to really focus on making incredible hats,” says Susan, “and to be surrounded by other amazingly creative individuals will push me to be even more creative myself.”
